Which brand of computer do you consider when you are making a list of the best computer brands? Computer manufacturers who provide reliability, durability and price value are generally the ones that are considered top computer manufacturers. The top computer manufacturers strive to provide a top quality user experience, so that their PC or laptop brand maintains their reputation of quality and value to consumers.
To be honest, there are not just two or three brands in the market that rate well, but many brands have stormed the market and several others have improved on their quality and reliability as well. I have listed below my favorites in terms of those that I think qualify as the best computer brands.
Have a look! It might help you in analyzing the different brands to see which ones would be best for you and your family:
1. Apple
I have talked a lot about this brand in other posts! But this post is about the best computer brands, and Apple computers, while not the cheapest, certainly are in the top group of best computer brands. Yes, the price point may seem high, but so is the quality!
The built up engineering is based on an aluminum uni-body. They have SSDs which make the hardware super fast, around four times faster than some of the traditional hard drives. Trust me, that can make a difference in the enjoyment of your computer!
You can relax and trust in Apple’s reliability as it has no moving parts. Every component in Apple computers is very well thought out and incorporated. The parts are very cleverly designed especially the asymmetrical fans which can produce variety of sound frequencies. And let’s not forget the graphics……a long time signature characteristic of the Apple brand! (but we can cover more on that in another post)
Apple iMac 21.5 inch
When it comes to sleek, stylish and something you either love or, well, don’t love – the Apple iMac is definitely one of those machines! Apple fans rave, some others, not so much. Personally, I think it’s a beautiful and impressive machine and it doesn’t take up a ton of space if space is at a premium. All good things –
There’s the version we’re covering here at 21.5 inches and older models are 20″. For those wanting even more screen view you can go up to the 27 inch Apple iMac like this model. However, in the interest of keeping costs down and because a 21.5 inch screen is going to be big enough for most, we are including that version of the iMac. Minimum configuration that can be upgraded if you choose includes: 3.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor w/ Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz, 8GB 2400MHz memory, 1TB hard drive, Radeon Pro 555 with 2GB video memory, Retina 4K display
2.Hewlett Packard
All I can say is that this is a time tested brand that could capture the top slot of best computer brands. And their products are less than other contenders, namely Apple.
Hewlett and Packard have earned their name as the most trusted and innovative brand. This company is even older than Dell and is one of the biggest manufacturers of PCs in the world. Do you know I still have and have used an HP computer for close to ten years that is still performing exceptionally well? As far as customer support is concerned, Hewlett Packard generally has good feedback.
So you can see that it’s a reliable brand and based on my experience in computer stores, it is also one of the best selling and trusted brands.
2017 HP Chromebook Laptop
If you are looking for an affordable, well made and solid performer the HP Chromebook laptop is a great one to consider! It’s performs well and has great functionality for light users. If surfing the web, email and student school work, this ought to be perfect! And at an extremely affordable price point, it’s hard to beat.
If you are a gamer, your opportunities are limited with a Chromebook. There are a ton of apps for various uses as well as some games that you can play, but nothing heavy. And for those Microsoft Office lovers, Google Docs or an app is going to be your best bet there.

3. Dell
Dell computers have a variety of price points depending upon the type of impressive computer configuration that you choose. This means that it is likely that you can find one to fit any budget. So if costs are a concern, Dell offers several quality machines at an affordable price.
Their warranty ranks as the best warranty in the market. It is unlikely that your Dell computer will ever break down, but if it does, it can be fixed without much fuss. Performance wise it gives tough competition to other brands. The best part about Dell is its computers and laptops are extremely easy to fix and repair. They offer back up image restoration, so if your computer has crashed, you know your images and documents are safe. I have personally used Dell for several years. Even after going through over 100 power outages, the computer still works and works well.

Dell XPS 15
This is one of our best computers that is amazingly popular and we see it everywhere! It is aptly called one of Dell’s top machines as it delivers praise worthy performance and blazing productivity. The 15″ display is a special mention for those that enjoy larger screens (like myself). In fact, I really, really want one of these (or an Alienware…).
This Dell XPS 15 laptop comes in an attractive aluminum and carbon-fiber chassis. It’s also an amazing multimedia powerhouse with an Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GPU and powerhouse speakers. Heavy duty gamers might want to look elsewhere but those at a lower level of gaming should be just fine. There are 2 versions, one of which has a touch screen. So if that’s of interest to you in your laptop, this is a great option to consider. Ratings and reviews showcase this one as both popular and well built.

4. Asus
This brand definitely ranks well and is coming in in our fourth slot. Do you know about Asus’ E family? The E family includes E pad transformer prime tablet and E Pcs. Believe me they make up a really impressive computer family. Look at Asus E PC UX 21. It is one of the thinnest PCs with an i7 core processor. The E PCX101 has a thin body almost like the Macbook Air. You can run Windows 7 on it as well. When I used Asus, I seldom saw the message ‘not responding’. Asus make great quality laptops with a sleek body that work quite well and have a long life.
As far as customer service is concerned, can’t say that it is best in the market. I have had some issues with my Asus Transformer book and getting support for it and others seems to have support issues as well from what we have seen.
Like others we’ve mentioned above, there are several price points as well for Asus computers and based on our computer reviews, we are certain that you can find one that would fit any budget!
ASUS Transformer 3 Mini – Best Laptops Under 400
ASUS is now a three time winner over the last few years with their repeated wins for Best 2-in-1 Notebook Brand – Reader’s Choice awards from HardwareZone.com.
This very versatile 2-in-1 comes complete with keyboard and pen, allowing you to use it as both a laptop and a tablet. Solid battery has proven to last with up to 11 hours of video play time. With the lightweight magnesium alloy body, the ASUS Transformer 3 Mini weighs in at less than 1.7 lbs with keyboard attached and only 0.6 inches thin.
ASUS CHROMEBOX-M004U Desktop
I’m absolutely fascinated by the ASUS Chromebox! As someone that can remember when computers took up entire rooms, this little guy is ingenious. When you combine the fact that it’s a top rated best seller on Amazon and has a price that is a fraction of a laptop, it’s a no brainer to purchase!
Promoted as “the world’s smallest Chrome device”, it only measures 4.9″ L x 4.9″W x 1.65″. However, that tiny package with Google Chrome OS, is packing a lot of power:
- 1.4 GHz Intel Celeron 2955U Processor
- 2GB DDR3 RAM, 16 GB SSD HD
- 1.4 GHz Intel Celeron 2955U Processor
- 2GB DDR3 RAM, 16 GB SSD HDD
- Intel HD graphics
5. Lenovo
Apart from Apple, Lenovo makes the best hardware in the PC industry. Their computers are thin, lightweight, tough and durable. That is an ‘all in one’ package.
The ThinkPad keyboard is one innovation in the PC world. No one has been able to beat Lenovo on that. If you want an exclusive Windows laptop, go for Lenovo. I personally love Lenovo for its impeccable design, quality and durability.
There has been some debate over the quality of its customer service and performance though. In the beginning customer service is very prompt, but with repeated problems, the support loosens. That is where some other laptop brands are simply better.
Lenovo Yoga 710 15 Inch Touchscreen – Best Laptops Under 700
I am in love with this machine! The Yoga 15 inch touchscreen is one of the thinnest and sleekest models currently available on the market. As the name suggests, the laptop is equipped with a hinge that allows it to lie flat on the surface or even bend into a tablet with stand or tent modes.
The lightweight gadget is certainly an entertainment powerhouse due to its Dolby Audio Premium as well as the eye-popping 4k high def touchscreen. It weighs in at barely 3lbs and is .56 inches thick making it extremely portable. Speedy processing and at least a 256 GB hard drive means it can work for you as well. Easy to use, portable and lightweight – all in one!
6. Acer
If you want a strong and reliable PC, Asus will not disappoint you. I have been using Asus randomly while traveling. After six years or use and testing it, it broke down finally. But for six years it delivered to 100% of its ability.
Acer seldom has any manufacturing or design flaw. It does seem that Hewlett Packard may get better feedback. The touchscreen PC designed by Acer has been very popular. I know some users, who are quite happy with Acer touchscreen and it’s one of the computers that I’m considering for our family use this year. The families I know that use this brand to play games, school work and general home use and Acer has been doing a fabulous performance for over two years. So overall Acer is a great and reliable PC.
Acer Chromebook 15 – Best Laptops Under 400
The Acer Chromebook 15 was the world’s first Chromebook with a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display. It is also the first Chromebook featuring the latest Intel processor, 4GB DDR3L, 16GB SSD for storage and it uses the new dual-band 802.11ac wireless technology.
It all adds up to the right mix of features to make you think bigger and re-imagine what’s possible with a Chromebook.
Chromebook 15 brings videos and games to the next level with a stunning large-scale display. The display is bright and crisp with a 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution display making it easy to share content easily with those around you. Acer Chromebook 15 has 9 hours of battery life and it’s big enough for all day use. This laptop is designed to withstand heavy daily use that you will put it through in college.
7. Microsoft
We all know who Microsoft is, so it should come as no surprise that they have officially entered the gaming PC market as well as the All-in-One desktop market. One of Microsoft’s latest ventures has been focusing attention on the hardware market and are delivering some of the finest all-in-one PC’s on the market. Though Microsoft does have a line-up of gaming PCs, their competition has them beat but when it comes to all-in-one PCs Microsoft just might be what the industry needed.
Microsoft is releasing a variety of all-in-one PC’s that make full use of the features of Windows 10 and deliver all-in-one PC’s that are designed for professional and creative use. Microsoft has finally decided to take the competition to Apple’s iMac which is bound to get the two rivals into an innovation competition better than ever before.
Microsoft Surface Pro 4
The Surface Pro is without a doubt the latest exciting series that’s coming out of Microsoft. If you’re looking for a powerful, sophisticated and beautiful laptop, this may well be your best bet. If you are in school or have kids in school, you might find that this is the brand and model that some schools are requiring kids to have.
Surface Pro 4 has powerful features including an Intel Core i5 6th Generation processor to support all of your processing needs. In addition, this laptop is light so portability is not an issue. Instantly switching between an ultra-portable tablet to a full laptop, this laptop’s exceptional performance is a great selling point. It is cooler, quieter and runs efficiently. In addition, it comes with new features you’ll absolutely love. The advanced technologies packed in Surface Pro 4 are aimed to enhance your user experience and offer you full value for your money.
Microsoft Surface Studio: Amazon
The Microsoft Surface Studio is the latest all-in-one PC by Microsoft and it is a dream come true for every designer. Rather than focusing on making an all-in-one PC for gaming, Microsoft has decided to focus on the more professionals arena and the Microsoft Surface Studio does exactly that. The Microsoft Surface Studio is perfect for any designer or business professional and is a direct rival of the iMac. This machine is sleeker than its competitor, the iMac, and does it by shifting the hardware for the CPU from the back to the base.
The Microsoft Surface Studio has a gorgeous and high definition 28-inch all-in-one Touch Screen display which is perfect for artists and anyone that uses a pen to draw. It has a resolution of 4500 x 3000 (192 DPI) making it perfect for precision work. In addition, it comes with a 6th Generation i7 processor and up to 32GB of Ram. To make sure everything runs smoothly it also has a rather powerful build-in GPU which is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 4GB GPU GDDR5 memory.
The Microsoft Surface Studio can also be seamlessly converted into a drawing board tablet making it the ideal choice for any designer and professional work environment. With all of these features, you can expect a price level that’s high but worth it if you are looking for these features.
8. Samsung
While Samsung may have landed in 8th position on my list, don’t get me wrong, they make great computers and tablets! In fact, I’m hoping to add the Samsung tablet to our family techie gear this year.
Like Apple, you can combine all your technology under one company umbrella if you choose to go with Samsung. Phone, tablet and computer – all synching and working together. Awesome!
Samsung computers and tablets are impressive. The touch screen all-in-ones really make the grade. Quite simply, whatever you want to do whether it’s work, shopping, movies and more, Samsung is simply wonderful at whatever you want to do with it. If you want to undergo a complete computing experience, you cannot go wrong with Samsung.

9. Razer
Razer rates as one of the best computer brands to go to when you want a high-end gaming laptop or high quality peripherals but recently Razer has shown a keen interest in the desktop PC market.
If you’ve been a gamer or have looked for good laptops or peripherals to buy then you must have come across Razer products. Razer hasn’t officially entered the desktop PC market, yet but it has teamed up with Lenovo and Maingear to bring us two extremely awesome gaming desktop PC’s. While Razer hasn’t made any official statement of bringing their own unique desktop PC to the market, it is suspected with the recent interest they’ve taken in desktop PC’s that we might just see a line-up sooner than you think.
Razer Blade Pro
The Razer Blade Pro is the laptop you want when you want to get the best gaming laptop on the market (and its price will reflect that…). The Razer Blade Pro is designed to be the perfect desktop replacement and one look at its specs will definitely convince you. For starters, it has NVidia’s current Flagship GPU the GeForce GTX 1080, with 8GB of GDDR5X VRAM built-in to deliver incomparable performance to other gaming laptops on the market. As I said before, this gaming PC is gorgeous. This gaming computer is a work of art that far surpasses any laptop Razer has ever made in terms of visual appeal. With the high-end performance and stunning design, this is a gaming PC made by gamers for gamers.
10. Toshiba
We’ve moved Toshiba down due to the changes that have been going on within the company as well as it’s change in marketing strategy. The company is focusing on it’s business component rather than the consumer market, which is great for businesses but leaves end users out of many Toshiba options.
Toshiba has been a trusted brand for a long time now (and one I’ve loved over the years!). The thing I like about Toshiba the best is its battery life. When I am traveling for long hours, I prefer to carry my Toshiba laptop as it saves me the trouble of plugging in for a charge.
If you love great screens you are bound to love Toshiba, graphics and visually it’s an impressive product. I have not heard any complaints on its quality going down. If you have to do a lot of office work on your laptop, Toshiba has enough memory to run with the best and a hard drive with space. It is not an over the top expensive laptop, but it is a high quality and solid performer. Toshiba will never let you down with its product quality and performance.
I am waiting for your votes of which you feel should be placed right at the top or just let me know about your favorite? This list is based on my personal using experience. Would love to hear yours…(Updated December, 2017)
